It is fantastic that people are willing to donate to homeless shelters. Anything you can donate is an appreciated GIFT. It was brought to our attention, however, that most of the donations (because they need to be inexpensive and stay fresh for a long time) are boxed foods that are not nutritious. So, we decided to make healthy snacks to drop off to our friends at Miller Community House. We met at my house after school and chopped up fruit to make fruit salad. We cut up vegetables to create a relish tray and we made energy bites (delicious natural healthy “cookies” high in protein), trail mix and a cheese and cracker tray.
